Tall Tales

best for: grades 5-12

Students have been known to tell a tall tale from time to time!

See it in action

So why not use the genre as a fun and interactive writing exercise that incorporates their classroom knowledge?

In this session, after a discussion of the genre, the students create their own tall tale with Steve's help.

For instance, maybe the students have studied explorers. So during this workshop, using what they have learned about the various explorers' journeys, the students will expand on those journeys in tall-tale fashion, creating a scene in which the explorers sit around Magellan's Restaurant in the after-life, with Steve recording these collaboratively exaggerated stories on his laptop in a session that lasts and hour.

Did you know you inspired me to be an author when I grow up?
